The Sankara Nethralaya Academy launches ‘Nethra Vidhya’ a highly interactive and educative continuing education program

As an institution in the forefront of Sankara Nethralaya’s real time teaching and training initiatives the Sankara Nethralaya Academy had launched the ‘Continuing Optometric Education Program’ back in 2010. The same was revived, enhanced, aptly renamed as ‘Nethra Vidhya’- A Continuing Optometric Education Progam- 2014’and relaunched recently with great enthusiasm. The first session of this series of six educative, informative and interactive sessions for students/practising optometrists titled ‘Progressing with the Progressives’ a clinically relevant topic for all practising optometrists and students got off to a flourishing start at the Sri VD Swami auditorium, Sankara Nethralaya Main campus on 30th of March, 2014.

The program started with a welcome address and introduction to the COE series by Ms. Anuja R Singh - Head of Optometry Courses, the Sankara Nethralaya Academy. Thirty three participants consisting of students, and practising optometrists from different levels attended the session which covered topics like fitting and designs in Progressive lenses, recent advancements, different progressive lenses available in the market and so on in great detail. The afternoon saw participants attending a live practical session which included a visit to the Sankara Nethralaya Optical services unit and a demo of visioffice equipment. This was followed by videos on lens manufacturing and case presentations on different trouble
shooting conditions. The participants were presented with a kit sponsored by Essilor which included basic equipments needed to fit Progressive addition lenses. The in-depth observations and guidelines by the speakers gave a rare insight into the art and science of fitting Progressive addition lenses to the participants and made it a day to remember and cherish. The rapt attention and the excellent and encouraging feedback by the students attending the session is a testimonial to the in-depth quality of the topic material and ground work which had gone into preparing and presenting the program and the excellent skills of the presenters.
The session ended with a vote of thanks by the Sankara Nethralaya team with all the participants having enjoyed the full day session on the art and science of dispensing Progressive lenses.

The next ‘Nethra Vidhya’ COE session is slated to be held on 4th May on the topic "Modern trends in IOL Power calculation".
