An old friend and well wisher of Sankara Nethralaya bids his final farewell

We share with a sense of deep grief and regret that leading cardiologist, eminent writer, highly accomplished teacher and researcher of Oriya culture and a good friend of our Chief and the Sankara Nethralaya family, Dr Kabi Prasad Misra, passed away on the 15th of March 2014, the sudden end to a most eventful and active career of a doctor who was always on the move came characteristically when he was addressing an audience at Katak, Orissa. A most warm and affable person and a good friend of our Chief Dr. Misra became highly attached to Chennai and its people whom he served with distinction in his capacity as senior cardiologist, Apollo Hospitals for 25 eventful years, a period when he authored more than 25 books, published 125 white papers and taught students of cardiology with distinction. A multi-faceted personality he had a deep passion for Odisha culture and the Jagannath Temple on which he had done great research, he was also actively involved with the Utkal society of Madras, a man with a deep social and charitable disposition he had founded 5 charitable trusts doing great social and charitable work. Dr. Misra was honoured with the ‘Outstanding Service’ award by the Rotary club and also received several prestigious awards for his academic and professional accomplishments.

The city of Chennai reciprocated its love and respect in equal measure and Dr SS.Badrinath played a key role in creating the Dr. KP.Misra Endowment Lecture as a tribute to him. A pressing need to take care of his mother at her old age compelled the learned doctor to move back to his native Odisha where he was posted as Director, Medical Education and Training, Apollo Hospitals, Bhubaneswar. The Sankara Nethralaya family would miss the in-depth and lively speech of this great man on the ‘Art of communicating and teaching’ delivered on ‘Teacher’s day’ when the endowment Lecture is held in his honour every year.
The members of the Sankara Nethralaya family joins their Chief Dr SS.Badrinath in expressing their deep sorrow and heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and pray for the departed soul to rest in peace.
