4th Annual Optometry Symposium by Sankara Nethralaya Kolkata on 30-03-2014 at Indian Science Congress Hall,Kolkata

Sankara Nethralaya, Kolkata had been organizing “Annual Optometry Symposium” for the past 4 years with various themes viz Vision Therapy, Low Vision, Advanced Contact Lens, Optical Dispensing as a day long symposium with presentation and workshops with the participation of SN Chennai faculty, SN Kolkata faculty and renowned practitioners across the nation on the specified specialty. This year the theme would be on Ocular Prosthesis alongside Optometric Education and with special emphasis on SN Academy, Kolkata Chapter. The event is also in tune with the “World Optometry Day” that falls in the month of March every year.

The day long symposium would also have Optometry Students and Alumni from past participating as delegates in the event. Eight batches have passed out since 2005 and many of our Optometry Alumni are working at SN Kolkata and many placed in the profession outside with enormous success. These Alumni Delegates would also make presentations in this only one of its kind event every year and hearten out their success stories with their seniors, contemporaries and juniors through guest lectures, scientific presentations and posters on their specialty, current area of work and case discussions from practice. There are also presentations under student category and practitioner category and some of the alumni involved in academics would be in panel as moderators. The student category talks would be given prize and awards as well.

A separate category of keynote lecture would be allotted for Ophthalmologists in the symposium schedule on specific topics with senior consultants in the scientific panel.

As majority of the participant delegates would be third year and final year students across various optometry colleges in West Bengal and Eastern India including Bihar,Jharkhand,Orissa,Assam and North Eastern states the symposium would pave way for them to get an opportunity to know the rich heritage and the glorious Sankara Nethralaya Legacy that the Alumni belong from their internship and academic training at SN Kolkata and motivate the prospective students to pursue and affiliate themselves to be a part of this celebrated and illustrious tradition. The participants would also include a sizeable number from Nepal and Bangladesh from where we get large number of student applications for internship training
