Entrance Examination & Interview for B.S.Optometry at India's Premier Optometry Institute - Elite School of Optometry - 29th June 2012






Why ESO?

The Elite School of Optometry welcomes all prospective students with a desire to pursue a challenging career in optometry. Candidates are selected based on the evaluation of their academic performance and an interview. Thirty students are admitted every year purely based on merit. The college, with its limited intake of students has always given individual attention to all its students. ESO is also proud of its internationally renowned faculties, well established educational base, curriculum and standard of education together with the excellent training in its mother institute Sankara Nethralaya, Medical Research Foundation.




ESO is run by the Medical Research Foundation in collaboration with Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, the pioneers in their fields.

The Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education. The primary motive of BITS is to "train young men and women able and eager to create and put into action such ideas, methods, techniques and information".




All our graduates are employed and have been offered good positions in the clinical, research and academic fields of optometry in India and other countries. Of the 280 awardees so far,

Academic Eligibility: B.S., M.Phil, Ph.D Optometry


B.S. Optometry (Bachelor of Science-Optometry)

Any student passing the Higher Secondary (+2) with excellent performance in Physics, Chemistry, Maths /Biology/Computer Science are eligible to enter the B.S.Optometry post interview / entrance exam. Only candidates having a minimum aggregate of 60% and above in 10+2 Board exam and individual subject marks of 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Maths/Biology are considered for Entrance Exam/Interview


M.Phil Optometry (Master of philosophy-Optometry)

This is a two-year intensive research program. Persons with a bachelor's degree in Optometry and one year clinical experience are admitted to the program after a written test and an interview. Students will be given advanced instruction in specialized areas of Optometry and a thorough training in research methodology. Students will have to submit a dissertation based on an original research conducted under the supervision of a research optometrist/ophthalmologist.


Ph.D Optometry (Doctor of Philosophy- Optometry)

This is a three-year research degree to which persons with an M. Phil. or equivalent degree is admitted after an entrance test and an interview. Students will carry out an original research under the guidance of a research optometrist/ophthalmologist. The research should contribute significant new knowledge to the field of optometry.




Admission Process


University will short list the candidates and eligible candidates can check about their status in the website itself. Those short-listed will undergo an entrance examination and interview before final admission.

Admission process(Entrance examination and Interview) is scheduled on Friday, 29th June 2012

Results will be announced around 6:30 pm. on the same day. Candidates are requested to make arrangements accordingly.

Admission Fees



Application forms and programme details can be downloaded either from Elite School of Optometry (www.eso.snkaranethralaya.org) or from BITS, Pilani (www.bits-pilani.ac.in/wilp) websites. Deadline for submission of duly completed application form (alongwith the requisite processing fees of Rs. 1,500/- (Non-refundable) to be paid as per procedure specified in the form) to the undersigned is June 15, 2012 as per any of the four modes specified below:

Option 1: Pay Online Payment through Net Banking

Option 2: Pay Online Payment through Credit Card

Option 3: Pay Rs. 1525/- through cash at all ICICI Bank branches through a Challan(PDF document) which is to be downloaded and printed from this website before making the payment.

Option 4: Pay through a crossed Demand Draft drawn in favour of "BITS, Pilani" payable at
ICICI Bank Pilani (Branch Code 1538) or
State Bank of India, Pilani (Code: 11309) or
UCO Bank, VidyaVihar, Pilani (Code: 0150) or
State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, Pilani (Code: 10398) or

In case of Demand Draft drawn on at any other bank (payable at Jaipur), a Demand Draft for Rs. 1600/-, should be submitted.

Please check the demand draft and ensure that it is correct and complete in all aspects such as date, drawee name, bank manager signature, name and code of issuing bank branch and drawee bank branch, amount in words and figures.

In the draft, you must ensure that "Payee" / "Pay" to NAME is written only as "BITS, Pilani" and nothing else.

Please ensure that the Application number and Applicant's name is written clearly on the backside of the Demand Draft

Fees

Fees Structure Applicable for candidates seeking admission during session 2012-2013

The fees schedule applicable for B.S.Optometry program is as follows:



Admission Fees: Rs. 15,000/-
Each Semester Fees: Rs. 32,700/- (Total of 8 Semesters)
Caution Deposit Rs. 1000/-
Library Fees Rs. 2000/-


A candidate who has been offered admission will have to pay Rs. 47,700/- (Admission fees and Semester fees for the Starting Semester of the programme) immediately on receiving the Admit Offer Letter. Any candidate who desires to discontinue from the programme after confirmation of admission & registration for the courses specified in the admit offer letter will forfeit the total amount of fees paid.
